Does an Instagram business need a website?

Many small businesses find customers through Instagram. The real question is not whether a website replaces Instagram, but what role each plays alongside the other.

Where Instagram helps

Instagram is strong for day-to-day visibility, showing work visually and talking to followers directly. New work, offers and behind-the-scenes moments can be shared quickly.

When prices, terms and answers to common questions are spread across separate posts, visitors may struggle to find them. The account depends on platform rules, and not every visitor uses Instagram.

Where a website helps

A website is one stable address for fixed information: services, terms, opening hours, location and a way to enquire, shown the same way at any time. Search engines can index its pages, though that is not an automatic ranking or enquiry guarantee.

It is also easy to share: the link in your bio, a service list sent in a message or the address on a business card all lead to the same page.

Example: a beauty salon

Imagine a salon that posts its work on Instagram but answers the same questions every day: how much, where are you, which days are you open? A simple landing page can show services, key terms and the address in one place, with a “Message us on Instagram” button. Conversations then start with someone who already knows the basics.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a measured result. Every business has a different audience.

When a website is premature

Sometimes it makes more sense to tidy up the Instagram profile first:

  • Services and prices are not settled yet.
  • There is no copy or photography to put on a site.
  • There is no time or process to reply to enquiries.
  • The goal is a few weeks of testing or a one-off event.

Instagram + a simple landing page: the enquiry journey

A practical start: a visitor sees a post, taps the bio link to a landing page, reads services and terms, then messages via an Instagram DM button. This needs no form, database or extra system, and can grow later.

Results depend on many factors — the offer, price, content and response speed. No website guarantees a number of leads.

Concept example: LUMÉ Studio

LUMÉ Studio is a concept site I built to show service structure, a contact path and mobile layout for a service business. It is not a client project or a success story; it simply shows how such a site can be structured.
